# Connecting a Custom Domain and Everything Around It
First, let us clarify how the overall system logic works.
Your page always has an original address hosted on the olaao servers, in the following format:
https://olaao.com/@your-slug
We refer to this URL as the original address of your page.
What does a mirrored domain mean?
If you own a custom domain, for example mydomain.com, and want to display the full content of your page on that domain, including all features and functionality, this is technically referred to as website mirroring.
Your custom domain then becomes a mirrored domain, as it mirrors the content from another URL – specifically from your original olaao address.
What is required to properly mirror a domain?
To correctly connect your original olaao address with your own domain, three steps are required:
1. DNS record configuration at your domain provider
2. System configuration in the olaao administration
3. SSL security certificate for encrypted communication
1. DNS record configuration
DNS (Domain Name System) records are a key element in connecting your domain to the olaao servers.
- DNS records determine where your domain is directed
- Exact instructions for configuring DNS records for your domain or subdomain are provided directly in the olaao administration under Settings → System → Mirrored Domain
- No additional configuration such as redirects or custom rules is required – all further processing is handled automatically by olaao
2. System configuration in the olaao administration
In this step, you enter your domain name into the olaao administration.
The domain must be entered in the following format:
- mydomain.com
- or, in the case of a subdomain: sub.mydomain.com
The domain must not contain:
- http://
- https://
- www
Additional configuration options
Redirect to www
You may choose whether your domain should automatically redirect to https://www.mydomain.com or remain at https://mydomain.com.
This option is available only for root domains, as www cannot be treated as a subdomain.
Use a subdomain instead of the root domain
This option is useful if you already operate an existing website, such as an online store at www.mystore.com, and want to use olaao in another mode, for example as a blog.
In this case, you can mirror olaao to a subdomain such as blog.mystore.com.
When this option is enabled, olaao can automatically integrate with your existing website and offer navigation or linking back to your primary site.
After saving these settings, the olaao system automatically initiates the generation of a security certificate in the background. This certificate ensures that communication between your mirrored domain and the original olaao address is encrypted.
3. SSL security certificate
The SSL certificate is issued by a certificate authority authorized by the olaao system.
Thanks to the SSL certificate:
- Communication between your original olaao URL and your mirrored domain is encrypted
- All sensitive data, such as reservation submissions or contact form messages, is protected
- Data transmission cannot be intercepted or read by third parties
olaao issues SSL certificates with a validity period of 6 months and automatically renews them for subsequent 6-month cycles.
Both issuance and renewal are handled entirely in the background, and no user action is required.
Recommended setup process
- First, configure the required DNS records at your domain provider
- Once DNS records correctly point to the olaao servers, complete the domain setup in the olaao administration
- SSL certificate management is fully automated
# Final notes
The entire process of connecting a mirrored domain typically takes no more than 15 minutes, depending on DNS propagation and approval by the certificate authority issuing your SSL certificate.
